China receives 235 orders for new passenger plane

The orders come mostly from within China but some also have come from the U.S. and southeast Asian countries.
Development of the new passenger jet is already underway and a first test flight is scheduled fo 2014.
The C919 will be the first Chinese made single-aisle passenger jet. The first planes off the line will be powered by LEAP-X1C engines developed by General Electric and Safran(France).
The engines are already used in Boeing and Airbus planes. The engines will cut fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent and emissions will be halved.
However China is also designing it's own engine for the plane, the Yangtze 1000. The engine is still undergoing certification. See the full Xinhua article here.
