Another reason for the surge
If the US plans to attack Iran it must have troops ready to respond to the reaction of Shias in Iraq. This is another possible reason for having more troops sent to Iraq. They will be ready to put down any attempt by Iraqi Shias who see Iranians as allies to attack US troops.
